What was the highlight of Hotel Golf Mar Maceira
Good stay for a calm family trip
This is probably the biggest hotel I have been in. Situated on the top of a cliff, it has a lovely sea view. It´s a good budget-orientated option for families. Both inside and outside pools are well maintained; the outside one has nice sunbeds and a pool bar where you can get a snack or light lunch. The inside pool is really big and has nice warm water, with some hydro-massage options. There is a gym on-site and spa options. All the staff was really lovely! The breakfast was really good, plenty of options to choose from, and the eating area was spacious. While we didn't have dinner there, a 3-course menu is available, and in some evenings they even have entertainment. There is a bar open until late in the evening, which is nice for a late-night drink. the hotel has two stairways to get down to the beach, it´s great for a small walk. We had our room on the 9th floor and I mostly used the stair. It was a pleasant surprise to see that on the doors of each floor, they had motivational messages promoting the benefits of using the stairs. It was a nice detail. All in all, such a big hotel has its charms, seeing people get ready for dinner and enjoying their time.
It is not the hotel´s fault, but it was really windy and ultimately cold outside. In the first afternoon, people went inside because they could not stay due to the wind. If at any point the hotel wants to invest, they could put a higher glass panel around the terrace, it would keep the view but protect a bit against the hard Atlantic wind. The other observation more of a note is that there are few elevators, so it may take a while to get to the upper floors. I chose to walk upstairs but I am conscious that not everyone can. The rooms were a bit of stuffy, (my mother-in-law said that is normal for hotels so close to the Atlantic). Probably the biggest callout is that there was no air conditioning. I am conscious that for such a large hotel, it will take time to renovate.

Staff was lovely polite and friendly. Beautiful scenery. Breakfast was good. Hotel was beautiful inside.
Carpets in room thread bare ( However the rest of room was fine) There is a wooden walkway to beach however the last bit of it you need to climb over rocks ( not good for older people) unless you take the car to the beach There are only 2/3 restaurants on the front. Very noisy someone playing drums at 2.30am also door won't close unless you bang it shut.

Very Good
View is wonderful, both the sea view as well as the mountain/hill view. Breakfast is very good. Facilities around the hotel are excellent: you have the beaches around the hotel, the natural park (for hiking, jogging and cycling), the small river for boat exploration. And there is sport/fun park just right to the hotel where you can play tennis, and all sorts of other activies (rappel, tree climbing, archery, etc.). This sport/fun park is great if you're traveling with kids.
